19Apr2026 Sermon Recap

Spiritual Covenant by Brother Jim Gainnie

This week’s message at Oak Grove Church centered on the power of covenant, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and the incredible invitation believers have into relationship with God through His mercy and grace.

Brother Jim Gainnie opened the service by acknowledging the sovereignty and holiness of God, reminding the congregation that it was through the innocent blood of Jesus Christ that humanity received remission of sins. The atmosphere was filled with gratitude for the redeeming power of Christ’s sacrifice and the privilege believers have to gather together as a blood-bought family.

The congregation was reminded that through Jesus, believers are no longer spiritual orphans. They are sons and daughters of God — heirs with Christ, seated with Him in heavenly places. The message repeatedly pointed back to the truth that salvation is not based on human effort, but on the finished work of Jesus Christ.

As the sermon continued, Brother Jim prayed that the Holy Spirit would quicken the Word of God in the hearts of the people, bringing revelation and deeper intimacy with the Father. He emphasized the importance of humbling ourselves before God and preparing our hearts to receive truth that transforms lives.

One of the central themes of the message was understanding that God operates through covenant and kingdom.

Brother Jim explained that covenant is foundational throughout scripture. From the Old Testament to the New Testament, God has consistently revealed Himself through covenant relationships with His people. He even mentioned the desire to teach further on the many different covenants established throughout the Bible in future teachings.

Drawing from Hebrews 9, the sermon explored the earthly tabernacle and the symbolism found within it. Brother Jim carefully described the structure of the tabernacle, including the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies — the sacred place where the presence of God dwelled above the mercy seat.

The teaching emphasized that every part of the tabernacle pointed toward Jesus Christ.

Under the Old Covenant, blood sacrifices were necessary for purification and the remission of sins. Blood was sprinkled on the altar, the people, the tabernacle, and the sacred vessels because scripture declares that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin.

However, Brother Jim emphasized that these sacrifices were only temporary shadows pointing toward the perfect sacrifice that was to come through Jesus Christ.

Unlike the repeated sacrifices under the Old Covenant, Christ’s sacrifice was once and for all.

Jesus entered not into an earthly Holy of Holies made by human hands, but into the heavenly sanctuary itself, securing eternal redemption for all who believe.

This truth became one of the most powerful moments of the message: believers no longer need to live under the weight of guilt, shame, and continual condemnation because the blood of Jesus fully paid the price for sin — past, present, and future.

Brother Jim explained that the Holy Spirit now works within believers to cleanse their consciences from dead works so they can freely serve the living God. Christianity is not about carrying constant sin-consciousness; it is about walking in freedom, mercy, and relationship with the Father.

The sermon challenged believers to move beyond religion and into true relationship with God.

The Holy of Holies was described not as a place of fear, but as a place of mercy, forgiveness, healing, and communion with God. Through Jesus Christ, believers now have access to boldly approach the throne of grace.

Brother Jim repeatedly emphasized that God’s invitation is open to everyone — not through works or religious performance, but through faith in Jesus Christ.

Another key theme throughout the message was the power of prayer and intimacy with God. Brother Jim encouraged believers to develop personal prayer closets where they can communicate with God privately and receive revelation through the Holy Spirit.

While God is always present and believers can pray anywhere, he explained that intentional time alone with God creates deeper relationship, clarity, and spiritual strength.

The message also carried a burden for lost souls and the condition of the world. Brother Jim spoke passionately about the importance of believers demonstrating the love, unity, and power of God’s family so others would be drawn to Christ.

As the sermon came to a close, there was a heartfelt call to repentance, healing, and freedom.

The congregation was encouraged to allow God to heal wounded hearts, cleanse guilty consciences, and break the bondage of sin-consciousness. Brother Jim reminded everyone that the blood of Christ is greater than anything trying to condemn them.

The final encouragement was simple yet powerful:

Come out of the old sin nature and into the nature of God.Walk by faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ.Live in the freedom of knowing you are forgiven, redeemed, and eternally loved.

Through the blood of Jesus, the way into the Holy of Holies has been opened. Not through religion. Not through striving. But through covenant, mercy, and grace.
